MONDAY MAY 23

Updated: Nov 5, 2022

This morning was really smooth considering the events of yesterday. I made some lemon water and put two glass bottles in the fridge to chill (which I was quickly informed to be an 'American' thing...? Does the rest of the world NOT drink chilled water? Do they not know the simple pleasure of cold water on a hot day, or after waking up from a deep sleep? Such a shame.).

I got some cool work gear this morning--a couple jackets, rain pants, a saddle with lead reins, and helmet. Of course not for permanent, but I might try to keep the outerwear jacket because its hella cool if we're being honest. We had a busier day, with one morning 2-hour tour that I took with Elisa, then a quick lunch before gearing up for a Disney group. All of our horses were used, so it meant it was time for me to get back on a guide horse--but all went well because I think I found a guide horse for me :). The group was around 40 people (so 2 groups of 20-ish for a 30min ride), and I rode Herkules…a guide horse on loan to the company from one of the boss' friends. He’s fairly sensitive, which usually isnt my type of horse, but something about his personality just seems to mesh with mine, and I’m learning to really understand the way he works with a rider. After the Disney group we had a school group of 14-16 year old kids (18 of them) in which I took Herkules again--but unfortunately let him get a bit too close to Sol after the last turn and I took a nasty kick in the shin. I looked down and just watched the blood blossom down my legging and laughed--quite a manic moment for me. I didn't have much time to focus on it though before a kid fell off and I had to dismount and walk with him until the boss came down the road to pick him up. He seemed fine, just being a bit dramatic, but who am I to judge. The first time I ever fell off a horse I was a bit scared too.

After the groups went home and the farm quieted again, I had my first official tölt lesson with Elisa, and it went super well—however we do think Herkules is going to be taken away for the multi day tour of danish women. That verdict will be back soon I suppose—thankfully they’re taking a lot of the stronger/younger horses, so I’ll have a good batch of seasoned oldies to build up some riding muscles on first.

I'm really grateful for how much care Elisa is putting into training me and picking out horses for me. Already I feel as though we're good friends, and can't wait to see what the summer has in store from here on out.
