Suuuuuuper great day today.
I journaled from yesterday and Papaya played with the string end of my journal. I honestly haven't seen her in many playful situations, and it made me smile. I also found my new obsession with blueberries and oat milk yogurt--something about the bluebs here make them so sweet! We didn't have any tours in the morning, so Sabira and I were 'on call' and Elisa was given the day off. I made a deal with Sabira that if she took a tour in the morning if one came up, that I would take an afternoon tour--which freed up my time to go on a fun ride with Elisa. :). I feel like I learn something new about the area and horses every time we ride together, and she always has the horses that prefer to be in the front…which is perfectly fine with me. I really wanted to try Mbrun out today so picked her for our mountain ride—something about her just looks like she’d be my vibe. Plus her M on the back is cute because like, M for Martin :). Look at her little winter coat leftover! Ah so cute!
Long story short, I ended up absolutely adoring Mbrun. She’s the perfect mix of energetic and controlled, but also spunky and FAST. She was such a good sport about all of the hills Elisa and I walked up, and even though she looked annoyed, I think she liked the view at the top too. Elisa said two girls in March would go up the mountain every time on their free day…which horses they used for that is beyond me because it truly is quite a hike even on foot! Elisa rode Fylubrúnn who had some personal thoughts about having to hack on his day off, but he also seems like a fine enough horse should I ever need to take him as a guide horse. I'm glad my guide horse repertoire is growing--it makes unexpected herding and days in Rvk a lot less stressful. When we reached the top of the mountain we got a crazy cool view of the neighboring town, and took some fun panoramas with our ponies before admitting the bugs were too bad and trekking down. Elisa pointed out the heart shape on the side of the mountain--I don't know how I never noticed that before!
On the way back we decided to have a fun little gallop, well more Elisa than me (I really need to work on pushing my confidence boundaries and instigating more situations to test my riding, because right now I'm being a little lame.) and holy molyyyy what fun. Her little gallop takeoff is way stronger than Nota's (no comment on comparison to my accidental fun rides on Naglà and Zorro…I wasn’t really paying attention to much more than hanging on OBVIOUSLY) and I think if I hadn't been holding her reins as snug as I was that she would have easily beaten Fylubrúnn. I know she went on the multi-day tour so she must be something to speak of, but apparently none of the women rode her? A little confused as to why not, but all I know is she's definitely going to be on my riding books from now on--I'm in love.
When we got back, we had accidentally ridden through the afternoon times as well so the work day was over. It was okay because no one ever came by, so no situations arose that I was forced to apologize for. All of the horses were napping—so true to Elisa and Martin fashion, we decided to join in. It's always so special to lay down with them and just rest—the grass was soft and cool, Zorro gave us plenty of kisses, and a freshly-back Stormi cuddled Elisa (which I know made her heart pitter patter especially given how the week had been). Moments like these make me realize why its worth it even with the shittier parts of the job.
Sabira took Nasi out on a ride and then ended up live-streaming it on instagram, so while Elisa and I went for ice cream (yes, I know at this point you understand we do this maybe too much, however something can be said for the amount of manual labor we do PLUS the Disney people always give a 10.000isk tip and we didn't have time to go yesterday) we joined her stream. It was a lot of nothing, but I tried to harass her into galloping a couple of times without success.
After ice cream I made tacos for dinner (introduced Elisa to the joy that is taco night and guacamole--she was obsessed. I've created a salsa monster now, but can I really feel bad? Everyone deserves to know the joys of salsa). In my glow from the day I forgot the impact consuming mass quantities of avocados has on my intestines, and temporarily saw god for the rest of the evening. Thankfully I have tomorrow off so no worries how late I have to stay up with my avocado aftershock.
