8 SONGS THAT SOUND LIKE AN AUTUMN RAIN

Updated: Oct 1, 2022

woohoo aesthetic vision board to start us off:

The way I can't, nor ever will be able to, stress how important a solid life soundtrack for every niche moment and expression is to me makes this trend of journals insanely important. I directly measure my life in playlists, and that being said obviously have audible aesthetics outlined to the most detailed extent.

The songs I picked for this blog all stem from playlist: When It Rained The Mountains Cried--a personal favorite, as well as the playlist of choice for some of my closest friends. My entire senior year of college I played it in the background at nighttime, as well as during thunderstorm dinner parties and late study sessions (when I wasn't pavloving myself by binge listening to Christmas At Hogwarts for the 100000000x, but more on that another day).

So without further rambles, the 8 songs I fully believe sound exactly like an autumn rainstorm feels.

Overcome - Skott

Easily top of the list, but think more late-night october rainstorm. Staring out of a bedside window and watching the highest tree branches bend around each other while the candle across the room glows lowly in the jar.

San Junipero - Lostboycrow

A tough second, but ultimately because it reminds me more of a morning october rain. Think the first sip of coffee or tea that you got up early to enjoy before having to asses daily responsiblities. The world still feels asleep, but the wet leaves across the yard glow a little and you're still warm from bed.

I Wanted to Leave - SYML

This one feels like an evening commute home. The day was what it was, successful or mundane, but the car windsheild wipers create that meditative lull (honestly one of my favorite sounds in the world and I'm not even ashamed of that.) and you can just breathe as you think about a quiet dinner, or shower, or book you'll read.

Beach - Axel Flóvent

Deep-autumn mood here, and reminds me of the lazier rainstorms without much fanfare that start around the holiday season. Thanksgiving break coming up, studies get more complex, and friends draw closer to each other.

Open - Ashlynn Malia

The iron hold this song had on me the entirety of 2021 is insane. Every single time I was cooking late dinners after I got home from work, and the wind was just beginning to shift from the north, wine in hand and bread in oven, I was most likely blaring this in the background. The energy was just, healing, in a fall-sort of specific way.

Still - Jolé

A new find, but reminds me of lunch break rain--running from your car becuase its a hassel to get out a jacket or umbrella--laughing with your buddies or peers at how silly we all get when the sky starts to drop.

Wind Song - Ludovico Einaudi

A controversial pick, thus why its further down, but it reminds me of driving to piano every tuesday of my childhood. Childhood being a generous timeframe, as it was age 6-18, but the long drive down a country road, reaching over to keep my sheet prints from sliding off the passenger seat every turn I made, to the thick quiet of Mrs. Poole's house. It always rained on tuesdays, or at least more often than not, and I'll always be thankful because it influenced my love affiar with piano more than I can describe. It even made the competitions seem tender, and this song feels the most like those memories.

Köln - Corey Kilgannon

Putthing this one last, but still on the list, because it was THE academic rain soundtrack for my highschool career. 10-12th grade this was always somewhere on my queue multiple times as I worked through the pain of school assignments thatI knew would not matter next month. The rush to get the mundane done so you can go read your novel on the porch as the drizzle presses on, or paint with a window cracked to feel as though you're still in a part of it all.

Of course the playlist has many more, but these mean the most to me. Here's the link, if you're a rain person too, or just want some music to breathe to. :)
